Why Join Ocean Vertical’s Everest region trekking expedition?
Expert Leadership: Our treks are led by Mollie Hughes, the first English woman to summit Mount Everest from both the north and south routes. With her extensive experience and deep knowledge of the region, Mollie ensures a safe, informative, and inspiring journey through Nepal.
During the lead-up to the expedition Mollie will guide you through your preparations, offering personalised advice and support to help you get ready for this incredible adventure.
Empowering Women: We are proud to partner with the 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking Company, which empowers and trains women in Nepal to become trekking guides. All our trekking guides are women, a rare sight in Nepal, particularly in the Everest region.
We firmly believe that by increasing the employment opportunities of female trekking guides, we can significantly contribute to gender equality in the region. This work not only promotes gender equity but also provides vital economic opportunities for local women, helping to transform communities and inspire future generations.
Trekking Guide Welfare: At Ocean Vertical we take the well-being of our local trekking guides and assistants very seriously. Each trekking assistant carries no more than 12kg, ensuring they are not overburdened, we view all of our staff as part of the Ocean Vertical family, we make sure they are fully insured, well-cared for throughout the trek and compensated above average.
Positive Impact: Our ethical approach to trekking aims to create a positive impact on the communities and environments we encounter. We strive to promote responsible tourism that benefits
everyone involved, ensuring that our expeditions are not just adventures but meaningful contributions to the region.
Authentic Adventure: At Ocean Vertical, we prioritize authentic adventure by steering clear of the crowded Everest Base Camp trails and avoiding peak tourist seasons.
Our focus is on small group sizes, allowing for a more intimate and personal experience. Our passionate leaders are dedicated to instilling a love for Nepal in every participant. With us, you’ll embark on a journey that transcends typical tourism, immersing yourself in the heart and soul of the Himalayas.

Nepal Trekking Expedition – Three Sisters Trekking Company
Ocean Vertical’s Nepal trekking expeditions are co-led by our friends at 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking, based out of Pokhara Nepal. 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking are pioneers in training and employing female guides for treks across the Himalayas.
Since 1994, the three sisters, Lucky, Dicky and Nicky Chhetri have worked to empower women in Nepal through their company 3 Sister Adventure Trekking, an organisation for women, by women.
In Nepalese society, women generally receive less education than men and are expected to follow a traditional lifestyle. In the early 90’s no one would have dreamed of Nepalese women guiding trekking expeditions in Nepal. The three sisters were pioneers in their field and through their guide training programme have now empowered over 2,000 women from all over Nepal. Many have become trekking guides and others have gained the confidence to find employment elsewhere.
“Our goal is to encourage our fellow Nepali sisters to become self-supportive, independent, decision-making women.”
We are proud to work with this inspirational organisation and can’t wait for you to meet our trekking guides to hear their inspiring stories first hand.
